About Sahar Chavez, M.D.
Sahar Chavez, M.D., is a board-certified OB-GYN physician. Chavez joins Lovelace Medical Group from Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services in Gallup, where she practiced as an OB-GYN physician.
Prior to working for Rehoboth McKinley Christian Health Care Services, Dr. Chavez worked at Fort Defiance Indian Hospital Tsehootsooi Medical Center in Fort Defiance, Ariz., where she practiced as an OB-GYN physician and was the medical education coordinator. As the medical education coordinator, Dr. Chavez was responsible for teaching and supervising the residents and medical students who rotated through the department.
Dr. Chavez earned her bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California, Los Angeles. She earned her medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and went on to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
Dr. Chavez is an Indian Health Services Scholarship recipient. In 2009, the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAID) honored Dr. Chavez with a Native American 40 Under 40 Award. This prestigious award recognizes 40 emerging American Indian leaders from across Indian Country who have demonstrated leadership, initiative and dedication and who have made significant contributions in business and/or their community. Dr. Chavez recently became a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). ACOG is a nonprofit organization of women's health care physicians advocating the highest standards of practice, continuing member education and public wellness.
