Patrick Gilligan, M.D. is a Native New Mexican Orthopaedic surgeon, born and raised in Santa Fe. Dr. Gilligan completed his undergraduate studies with honors at Santa Clara University where he received his Bachelor of Science. He completed medical school at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, where he received his Doctor of Medicine. He went on to complete his Orthopedic Surgery residency at UNM, Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation as well. During his last year of residency, he was awarded Orthopedic Resident Instructor of the Year, 2019. He then finished his fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at West Virginia University School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedics. Dr. Gilligan is skilled in performing muscle sparing direct anterior hip replacement for appropriate patients. He is also a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Dr Gilligan is a top notch surgeon and ortho doc with tremendous skills in the OR and office. He replaced my 68 yo right hip 2/16/2023, and now it’s been a year and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. His entire staff (assistants, X-ray techs, front desk) are all professional and cordial.i also want to thank the surgical personnel pre-op, post-op, and after I got to my room. I don’t know the names, but they all contributed greatly. A special thanks to the anesthesiologist who stopped by pre-op and explained that aspect, very reassuring. If my rt hip gives out, I have every confidence Dr. Gilligan will get me back on my feet. Again, thanks to all.

Dr. Gilligan and his entire team were simply the best. He performed a total hip replacement for me a year ago. I am extremely pleased with the surgery and after care, and can confidently state that my hip couldn't be better. I just am sure to do modest physical training a couple times a week, and my range of motion and strength are excellent! I wish he did shoulders also, but I appreciate that his focus on hips keeps him at the tip-top of his game and technological advances. I am an engineer and tend to have lots of questions. Dr. Gilligan had them all answered leaving no room for me to have doubts or unknown concerns entering surgery. I recommend him to everyone.

He reviewed my x-rays and asked specific questions about the effectiveness of the previous steroid injection before proceeding with a second one.

Dr. Gilligan is a thorough, thoughtful and more than anything knowledgeable doctor. He’ll listen to your questions and give you the good, the bad, and the ugly in a language you can understand. I love the fact that he’s young, and went to Medical School in the past 15 years learning the latest and greatest methods. And he’s friendly, and not full of himself as some doctors can be.

I just had my 1st appointment with Dr. Gilligan to see if he would accept me as a patient for an anterior method hip replacement. He was very personable and empathetic. He not only spent time fully explaining what was currently happening to my hip and what surgery could do for me, but also really listened to me. There's nothing better than having a doctor who really listens!

If you want a compassionate caring orthopedic surgeon, Doctor Gilligan is absolutely amazing. He is compassionate about what he does. He truly cares and love his patients. I call him the angel in the middle. I can tell you my hip replacement is absolutely amazing. No troubles, no issues... NO PAIN. He did an amazing job. I'm truly blessed to have him Doctor Gilligan, as my orthopedic sergeant, my doctor.. The angel in the middle..
